Porn Industry: Brief History

Until modern naturalism, this genre has come a long way, when the principles and rules of the industry were formed. Everything on this path was once the first time.

Here some important benchmarks in the porn industry history:

  • The first short film on adult theme was a French one (1896).

To put it bluntly in the 19th century, pornography was not yet invented (despite nude pictures), and the people were afraid of any expression of feelings. Just invented cinema very quickly adapted to the real needs of the public: the first movie popped up in 1895, and a year later the public was presented with a three-minute erotic drama Le Coucher de la Mariée.

Of course, there was a slight erotica in the film: according to the plot, the husband and wife went nude to the bed, after which were final captions. However, this was enough to shock the unusual French audience. It was the first reason why erotica later became known as “French films.”

  • First kiss on the screen: The Widow Jones, 1896 Country: USA

The year 1896 became a turning point in the fresh history of cinema: in the same year, for the first time, the public watched a big kiss on the screen! And critics spoke about this event as follows: “The spectacle of prolonged kissing each other on the lips was quite brutally presented in full size on the stage, and increased to gigantic sizes and repeated three times – absolutely disgusting.”

Scandalous kiss was the final scene of the film. Because of the unthinkable success among the audience, it was cut out and shown separately on special devices that looped the film. The person who wanted to join the new art had to pay a certain amount and enjoy the scene in proud solitude.

  • XX century

On the beginning on the century sex films began to be shoot. Around 1910, one of the earliest hard hit Am Abend (“Evening”) was created in Germany. According to film expert Linda Williams, these tapes had a lot in common with modern videos – they showed the genitals close up, and the sexual act itself was average.

Shooting and post-production took a lot of time and effort, moreover, was prosecuted by law. Silent porn films spread underground from hand to hand, sometimes shown in brothels and private men’s clubs. In the 1940s, the topic of sex was used to raise the morale of soldiers, but appeared more often in print because of the high cost of filmmaking.

Flourishing industry

After World War II, cameras and tapes became cheaper, opening new horizons to stakeholders. In the 1960s many owners of strip clubs in the USA realized that it was much cheaper for them to show films than to pay dancers. The sexual revolution of the 1970, then the digital cameras and World Wide Web emerging contributing to transforming porn in a real business.
